Overcoming Lust, A Practical Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Why the Fight Against Lust Is a Fight for Your Soul.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>Let\u2019s state it plainly, as the Bible does. <strong>Lust is not harmless; it\u2019s not merely \u201cbeing a guy.\u201d It\u2019s not a private indulgence that remains behind closed doors. It\u2019s a sin that can damage your relationship with God, ruin your marriage, and lead your soul to hell. Overcoming lust is a priority.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, I said it. And no, I won\u2019t apologize for how direct that sounds. Because if you\u2019re a young man struggling with lust or pornography, you don\u2019t need sugar-coating. You need truth. You need Scripture. And you need hope. Let\u2019s go there.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>Lust Isn\u2019t Innocent\u2014It\u2019s Adultery of the Heart<\/strong><\/h5>\n<pre>\u201cLust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>Proverbs 6:25 KJV<\/em>\r\n\u201cDo not desire (lust after) her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelashes.\u201d\r\n- <em>Proverbs 6:25 AMP<\/em>\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>It begins with a look\u2014a glance that lingers just a bit too long. An image you didn\u2019t scroll past. A movie scene you didn\u2019t skip. But it doesn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus didn&#8217;t hold back when He said:<\/p>\n<pre>\u201cWhosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>Matthew 5:28 KJV<\/em><\/pre>\n<p>You may not have touched her, but if you\u2019ve undressed her in your thoughts, you\u2019re guilty. Guilty of sin, accountable before a holy God, and responsible for something that could prevent you from entering heaven.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>This Sin Leads to Destruction<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Paul warned plainly:<\/p>\n<pre>\u201cThe works of the flesh are manifest\u2026 adultery, fornication\u2026 they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>Galatians 5:19,21 KJV<\/em><\/pre>\n<p>Read that again. This isn\u2019t just a bad habit; it\u2019s a matter of salvation. Sin always takes you farther than you intended. It starts in the heart. But if left unchecked, it tears apart marriages, devastates families, and distorts how you see people, especially women. Don\u2019t let it rob you of your future.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>So What Do I Do?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Do you need help overcoming lust?\u00a0 Let\u2019s get practical. You may feel stuck, maybe ashamed or even addicted. However, there is a way forward, beginning with <strong>repentance<\/strong> and a <strong>promise<\/strong> to God and to yourself.<\/p>\n<pre>\u201cI made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>Job 31:1 KJV<\/em>\r\n\u201cI have made a covenant (agreement) with my eyes; How then could I gaze [lustfully] at a virgin?\u201d\r\n- <em>Job 31:1 AMP<\/em>\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Job made a decision: a personal, serious, spiritual boundary. And so must you. Establish a covenant with your eyes, phone, mind, and heart. Flee the trap. Don\u2019t flirt with temptation. Shut the screen. Change your environment. Cut off access. <strong>Run.<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>\u201cFlee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace\u2026\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>2 Timothy 2:22 KJV<\/em><\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>Practical Step-by-Step Instructions to Win the War<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Repentance is the first step, but ongoing victory requires a strategy. You cannot overcome lust with willpower alone. You need a plan\u2014both spiritual and practical. Here are some battle-tested strategies that align with your walk with God:<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Remove Access Points<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>If you\u2019re serious about purity, you need to be<strong> ruthless with your access.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remove apps and social media accounts that encourage temptation.<\/li>\n<li>Install web filters or accountability software.<\/li>\n<li>Consider using a basic phone if needed. Your soul is worth more than unlimited internet access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong> Replace, Don\u2019t Just Remove<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Empty spaces will be filled. If you eliminate lust but don\u2019t <strong>fill that void<\/strong>, it will return.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fill your time with positive activities, such as working out, engaging in hobbies, or volunteering.<\/li>\n<li>Make it a habit to read your Bible daily, focusing particularly on Psalms and Proverbs.<\/li>\n<li>Remain filled with the Spirit. Lust and the Holy Ghost cannot share the same throne in your heart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong> Find Accountability<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>You were not meant to face this battle by yourself.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speak with your pastor or a trusted spiritual mentor.<\/li>\n<li>Be transparent. Confession sheds light on darkness.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t seek someone who will coddle your sin. Seek someone who will challenge you to rise above it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong> Don\u2019t Just Avoid Sin\u2014Pursue God<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>If you only concentrate on <em>avoiding sin<\/em>, you\u2019ll eventually burn out. Instead, focus on developing your relationship with God.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establish a regular prayer life. Pray <em>before<\/em> temptation strikes, not just afterward.<\/li>\n<li>Fast regularly\u2014it nourishes the body and strengthens the spirit.<\/li>\n<li>Get involved in the church. But when it strikes, let it serve as a <strong>reminder to run to the cross.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quote scripture aloud, just as Jesus did in Matthew 4.<\/li>\n<li>Play worship music to transform the atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li>Say the name of Jesus\u2014lust hates that name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong> Play the Long Game<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Consider the bigger picture.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What type of husband do you aspire to be?<\/li>\n<li>What kind of legacy do you want to leave for your kids?<\/li>\n<li>What type of ministry or calling are you willing to sabotage for five minutes of sin?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Victory arises from <strong>vision<\/strong>. Understand what\u2019s at stake, and recognize who you\u2019re living for.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>This Is War\u2014Every Day<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>This won\u2019t be a one-time victory. You\u2019ll need to fight for purity every day. Your flesh won\u2019t back down. The enemy won\u2019t relent. But you\u2019re not powerless.<\/p>\n<pre>\u201cAbstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>1 Peter 2:11 KJV<\/em><\/pre>\n<p>This is spiritual warfare. Make no mistake, it\u2019s a battle worth fighting. If you don\u2019t fight, you lose. And if you lose, you risk everything.<\/p>\n<pre>\u201cThe lust of the flesh\u2026 is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away\u2026 but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.\u201d\r\n\u2014 <em>1 John 2:16-17 KJV<\/em><\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>But You\u2019re Not Fighting Alone<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Here\u2019s the hope: <strong>Jesus hasn\u2019t abandoned you in this struggle.<\/strong> He sees you. And His grace is real.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><strong>If You Keep Fighting\u2014You Win<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Don\u2019t give up. You may fall, but don\u2019t stay down. You may slip, but don\u2019t surrender.
