Obituary for Walter Lee Kemp

Walter Lee Kemp, 81, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Woodsfield on February 8, 1939.

Walter was a truly caring and compassionate man, who will be missed by many.  He thoroughly enjoyed working in his garden, yard and flower beds.  Many enjoyed his beautiful flowers at Woodsfield True Value throughout the years.  Walter will be remembered as someone who would always help anyone in need.

Walter was the founder of the Woodsfield True Value Home Center, Inc. in April of 1974 and life long member of the former Woodsfield Free Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Osiris Shrine of Wheeling, West Virginia, Masonic Lodge of Woodsfield, Scottish Rite of Cambridge, Royal Order of Jesters of Wheeling, Past Potentate of Osiris Shrine – 1997, member of the chain gang for the Woodsfield Redskins and the Monroe Central Seminoles for over 40 years, member of the Monroe County Airport Authority, Woodsfield Moose, Woodsfield Eagles, and Monroe Central Sideliners.

Walter was preceded in death by his grandmother Viola Baker Moose who raised him.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sally Lynn Gehrig Kemp, son Troy (Melanie) Kemp, sisters Kay (John) Curtis of Sardis, and Sharon (David)  Agriesti, of Columbus,  grandchildren John (Casey) Kemp, Eric Kemp, Kyle Kemp, great -grandsons Jackson and Lincoln Kemp.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio, with Rev. Brian Darrah officiating.  Arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio.
