Navigating the Difficult Seasons of Life with Faith
To everything, there is a season. Some seasons are easy to embrace—times of growth, favor, and clarity. But others come in quietly, almost cruelly. Seasons of waiting. Seasons of pain. Seasons of not knowing what’s next or why you’re even walking the path you’re on. Sometimes, we all need guidance while navigating the difficult seasons of life.
Still, the seasons of life, both natural and spiritual, continue their relentless march forward. Whether we want them or not, we must live through them.
But how do we respond—especially in the difficult seasons?
Every Season Has a Purpose
Scripture tells us plainly: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV).
The Word does not claim that every season is easy or that every season is welcome. However, it does affirm that each one has a purpose. In God’s timing, nothing is wasted.
I struggled for years to understand my role in the Kingdom of God. I served. I prayed. I pursued. Yet, I felt as if I were wandering, waiting for direction—like the children of Israel in the wilderness, circling but not quite arriving.
It wasn’t until my 40s that the Lord made it undeniably clear: I was called to be a teacher of the Gospel. Not only to teach but to function in the apostolic office of a teacher—grounded in truth, called to rightly divide the Word, and to build others through revelation and doctrine.
That clarity did not come overnight. It was developed through years of spiritual growth, refinement, and perseverance during a seemingly dry season.
But that wilderness? It wasn’t in vain. God used it to shape me into what He had always intended.
Faith in the Middle of the Fire
Difficult seasons do not indicate that God has abandoned us. Instead, they often serve as evidence that He is refining us.
Consider Job, upright and faithful, yet stripped of nearly everything. His response? “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him…” (Job 13:15 KJV).
Consider David, anointed king yet hunted and hiding in caves. He wrote songs of worship in darkness, trusting in the God who called him long before the throne came into view.
Joseph received a dream as a teenager, but it took betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment before that dream became a reality. However, the period of delay served as the proving ground for his destiny.
What Should We Do in the Waiting?
When we find ourselves in an uncertain and difficult season, our flesh desires to escape, while the enemy seeks to keep us paralyzed. God, however, wants us to be prepared. The Spirit calls us to endure.
This isn’t the time to retreat; it’s the time to stand, walk, and move forward in faith—even if all you can see is just the next step.
Here are your spiritual marching orders—actions rooted in Scripture to help you press through the season you’re in:
-
Stay Faithful – Keep Walking Forward
Don’t sit in despair. Keep showing up, praying, and serving. Your faithfulness in this season of silence prepares you for the season of harvest.
📖 “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)
📖 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” – Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
-
Stay in the Word – Feed Your Spirit
God’s Word serves as your compass in the wilderness, sustaining and guiding you while revealing God’s heart in the storm.
📖 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
📖 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
-
Worship Anyway – Lift Your Voice in the Valley
Worship shifts your perspective, reminding your soul of who God is, even when circumstances remain unchanged. Worship is warfare.
📖 “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” – Psalm 34:1 (KJV)
📖 “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God… and suddenly there was a great earthquake.” – Acts 16:25-26 (KJV)
-
Hold Onto Hope – Expect God to Move
Hope is not mere wishful thinking; it is the confident expectation that God still has a plan. Don’t lose sight of His promises.
📖 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
📖 “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 (KJV)
-
Guard Your Mind – Fight the Lies with Truth
The battlefield often resides in the mind. When you’re weary, the enemy whispers lies. Respond to him with the Word of God.
📖 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God…” – 2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)
📖 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee…” – Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
📖 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
-
Surround Yourself with the Right Voices – Stay Connected
Isolation can be dangerous. Embrace godly relationships and spiritual leadership. Avoid trying to navigate your season alone.
📖 “Two are better than one… For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV)
📖 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together… but exhorting one another.” – Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)
📖 “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” – Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)
-
Be Still and Trust God – Don’t Rush What He’s Doing
At times, the toughest challenge is to wait. However, have faith that God is working in the unseen. His timing is perfect.
📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
📖 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” – Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
📖 “Trust in the LORD, and do good…” – Psalms 37:3 (KJV)
-
Sow Even in the Struggle – Don’t Withhold Your Obedience
Continue to sow seeds of obedience, generosity, and service, even during your challenging season. The harvest is on its way.
📖 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” – Psalm 126:5 (KJV)
📖 “In the morning sow thy seed… for thou knowest not whether shall prosper…” – Ecclesiastes 11:6 (KJV)
-
Fight Fear – Be Courageous in the Battle
Fear does not come from God. During difficult seasons, fear attempts to convince you that God has abandoned you and that you won’t get through it. However, courage is not the absence of fear—it is trusting God despite it.
📖 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
📖 “Be strong and of a good courage… for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” – Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
-
Fix Your Eyes on Eternity – Don’t Lose Sight of the Bigger Picture
Seasons are temporary, but eternity lasts forever. Don’t allow a difficult season to distract you from the eternal hope that anchors your soul. Focus on what truly matters.
📖 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:18 (KJV)
📖 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” – Colossians 3:2 (KJV)
📖 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
The Mission Is to Endure—and Win
These are not merely survival tips; they are Kingdom strategies for achieving spiritual victory in the wilderness.
Your season is not your sentence; it is your shaping ground. Stay faithful, stay grounded, and follow the guidance of the Lord of Hosts.
The Promised Land isn’t a fantasy. It’s your future.
God doesn’t just guide us through seasons—He ordains them. And when we trust Him in the dark, we will see Him more clearly in the light.
A Better Season Is Coming
One of the most comforting truths in all of Scripture is this: No season lasts forever.
Galatians 6:9 gives us this assurance: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Even in your winter, spring is coming.
The wilderness eventually ended. The Promised Land truly existed. The throne was filled. The prison doors swung open. And the teacher entered his office—not late, but precisely on time.
Don’t give up in this season. Don’t misinterpret a delay as a denial. Don’t assume that silence means absence. God is at work and remains faithful in finishing what He started in you.
Closing Encouragement
You may not have chosen this season, but you can choose how to respond. Trust in the God who sees the end from the beginning. Allow Him to use this time to shape you, help you grow, and draw you closer.
There’s purpose in your pain and glory in your story.
The winds are constantly changing, and the same God who sustained you during the storm will lead you into a better season. God will help you while navigating difficult seasons.
